The A.W.W.A. Today

The Armenian Women’s Welfare Association (A.W.W.A.) organizes numerous activities at the Armenian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for residents and their families.  The elderly cherish their heritage, and it is the A.W.W.A.’s goal to preserve and perpetuate that culture by ensuring that the ANRC provides a warm and caring atmosphere rich in Armenian tradition.

Events are held throughout the year and include holiday parties, an annual picnic, and visits from musicians and clergy.  At each event, members of the A.W.W.A. gather with staff and residents’ families to enjoy lively and uplifting entertainment with the residents.

For the past four years, the A.W.W.A. has been funding a Hanganak NGO program which provides medical services, food, and social support to 200 residents of Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabagh who are over 63 years old and live alone.  Physicians, nurses, and social workers meet at least weekly with the beneficiaries, either in the clinic or in their homes.

As part of its mission and in response to the findings of a needs and feasibility study, the Strategic Planning Committee of the A.W.W.A. is currently actively searching for land closer to the nucleus of the Armenian community to build a new state-of-the-art nursing facility and eventually to build a continuum of care for Armenian elderly.
